Chamba
Jairam Thakur, the Leader of Opposition, undertook a comprehensive tour of the disaster-stricken areas in Chamba district, specifically in the Bhatiyat and Dalhousie constituencies. During his visit, he interacted with victims and evaluated the extent of damage inflicted by recent natural disasters.
Concerns Over Extensive Damage
Thakur expressed his profound concern regarding the extensive devastation, highlighting that both infrastructure and the livelihoods of local residents have been gravely affected. He remarked, “Homes have been swept away, orchards ruined, and livestock lost. Numerous families are now residing in structures that are uninhabitable.”
Claims of Administrative Negligence
Residents have voiced accusations against the administration for negligence and biased relief efforts. Thakur cautioned that such conduct would not be accepted. “No victim of this disaster should experience discrimination or neglect. I encourage the community to observe the administration’s actions and report any unfair treatment so we can address these concerns with the government,” he asserted.
He reassured the affected families that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is committed to standing by them and will provide ongoing support during this challenging time.
Demand for Equitable and Prompt Relief
While addressing officials, Thakur stressed the importance of delivering relief based on genuine needs and damages, urging them to resist political or local pressures. He insisted that aid from the central government should reach those truly affected rather than influential individuals.
During his visit to villages such as Kakira, Tanu Hatti, Mel, and Kakdar in Bhatiyat, Thakur listened to the grievances of Rajasthani residents. He later spoke at a public gathering in Simdi, located in the Dalhousie constituency.
Public Outcry Over Damage
Thakur noted that complaints were prevalent in every area he visited. “Land is collapsing in various locations, entire villages are in jeopardy, yet the government’s presence is hardly noticeable. In some instances, even basic administrative personnel like patwaris have not arrived, and senior officials are neglecting public issues,” he stated.
He emphasized that timely assistance is vital during disasters, as delays can render relief efforts ineffective.
Accompanying Leaders
Thakur was joined by Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Mahajan, BJP state president Dr. Rajeev Bindal, former Speaker Vipin Parmar, Deputy Speaker Dr. Hansraj, Dalhousie MLA D.S. Thakur, Bharmour MLA Dr. Janak Raj, and former Bhatiyat MLA Bikram Jaryal, along with local officials and party members.
